King Edward VI Grammar School (K.E.G.S) Maths Day

KEGS Maths Puzzle Day.

Today a majority of children in Year 6 visited KEGS to participate in the Puzzle Maths Day. I was with two children, Lewis and Sherry, we worked well together and solved lots of puzzles.

We also played a game of "Nims", where you have to choose a number between 20 and 30 and the last person to take a pen loses. The key to winning is to start with 22 and take 1, if they take 3 (which is the maximum amount of pens you can take in a turn.) you take one and that adds up to 4 carry on making the amount of pens add up to four and you've won.

It was a lot of fun and i'd love to go again!

Leanne and Lesley's short division method

Yesterday, Leanne and Lesley used a software called Smart Notepad. We have used it to show you how to use the short division method. We hope you find it easy to learn it!

Please leave a comment to tell us what you think of it!

Maths

Today Mr Pugh's math's set  were learning about data and how to collect it. we were asked to write a question that we could collect data bye.Bye a tally chart/bar chart/line gragh/picture gram/ven diagram and caral diagram.

My question was, How many people support Queens Park Rangers. The way to collect that data is to go round the class with a tally or go round with a tally and make it into a bar chart.

If you can, reply and say if you have ever collected data in numeracy.

Mr Furness' Maths Homework - Halving / Quartering

There are two worksheets for this week. Decide which sheet you would like to have a go at.

One homework sheet involves finding halves and quarters of shapes.

The other homework sheet is ordering fractions into size order.

Enjoy!

A Particular Pizza Problem

Mr Furness says that he will cook any pizza you like, Hawaiian, Pepperoni, Cheese and Tomato etc.

Before this happens, Mr Furness would like to know what fraction of the pizza you would like.

Choose between:
