Step into the future...

Remember that tonight our clocks go forward one hour, so be careful otherwise you might miss breakfast tomorrow morning!

In the UK we have to change our clocks twice a year, once in the Spring and again in the Autumn. Some people have difficulty remembering which way the clocks have to be changed. I use this saying...

Spring forward (clocks go forward) and Fall Back (clocks go back)

(Fall is the name the United States give to Autumn)

Can anyone explain why we change the time by one hour twice a year?

Hi Mr Furness, Because we can use the daylight more effectively.
I hope it is right

Mr Furness

Absolutely right, Alex. Well done. I've noticed the evenings are much lighter already. In fact, I was out in the garden at 7:30pm last night and it was wonderful.

The term is called Daylight Saving Time (DST) and goes back to the turn of the Century, 1907 - yes, over a hundred years ago! It was said that DST made the roads safer, allowed more work to be completed amongst many other reasons.
