Blogs at Kings Road Primary School
some learning reflections from the staff and pupils.
Year 4 pupils visited St. Peter's College on Wednesday 9th July.
At last it was time to perform in front of parents from other schools as well as ours. It was really fun and nerve racking. We performed three dances that were the Motif-A, group dance and the conveyor belt that I forgot to tell you about and also the drama.

On the 3rd July 2008 some of the School Governors met at Kings Road to discuss ways to improve the Schools Playgrounds and Field areas.
We started by walking around these areas to see what is currently there, after this we had a discussion as to how the School could improve them for your benefit. During these discussions it was decided that your ideas and comments would be very valuable to any decisions being made. We therefore want you to respond to this blog by suggesting ANY IDEAS YOU HAVE on how the school could improve these areas used for Playing and Learning Activities. Perhaps you could ask others whilst you are in the playground as to their thoughts.
Thank you,
From all the Governors.

Here are photographs of some members of the computer control and modelling club, running here at school every Thursday evening. Children learnt how to programme NXT 'bricks' and connect these to electric lights to make a traffic light system.
Next week, we shall begin building robots which they can control using a computer programming language.

On Saturday 24th May, staff, parents, pupils and helpers came to Kings Road Primary School to begin building five raised beds in the Quad.
Whilst the adults did much of the heavy digging, lifting and construction, the children were involved in nature projects, such as weaving and nature scavenger hunts. Later, you will see them active in both planting and watering.

Parents and staff waved off pupils from Year 6 who are embarking on their school holiday to the Isle of Wight. Here are some pictures of the pupils getting on the coach.

and the coach leaving...

It is VERY quiet in school without the Year 6 children! ...or perhaps just with Mr Disley's absence?
Lots of children queued up (and paid money) to throw wet sponges at Mr Display this afternoon at the Summer Fayre.
Mr Disley was soaking wet (and cold) after being hit several times in and around the face.

I've had quite a busy day in Brightlingsea, installing a piece of software which monitors the local weather and puts the information onto a webpage. Have a look at what I've been doing today:
Brightlingsea Harbour Weather Data
As some people will know, I sail a raceboat which spends some of its time racing in Brightlingsea. In order to do well in the race, it is important to have really good information about the weather, especially the wind direction and how strong the wind is blowing. We are hoping to be able to view the weather data when we are racing on board Cracker, the race yacht. Who'd have thought we'd be using computers on the water!?
Remember that tonight our clocks go forward one hour, so be careful otherwise you might miss breakfast tomorrow morning!
In the UK we have to change our clocks twice a year, once in the Spring and again in the Autumn. Some people have difficulty remembering which way the clocks have to be changed. I use this saying...
Spring forward (clocks go forward) and Fall Back (clocks go back)
(Fall is the name the United States give to Autumn)
Can anyone explain why we change the time by one hour twice a year?

So this is the view out of my window this morning. Does snow on the ground mean that Winter is still here?!
What is the view out of your window? Can you take a picture and upload it to the blog site?

Like Jade, I've also travelled to the coast. I'm spending the day on the south coast, in Brighton. Unfortunately, I won't be spending any time on the beach as I will be inside upgrading the web server that runs this blog site. You might notice that this website stops working for an hour or two whilst I work on the server. It's great to see so many of you active over the weekend. I look forward to reading more over the coming week. Mr Furness
I've just added a new speelll spell check tool to this blog site so that when posts are written, you can use this tool to check your work before you press submit. Have a go and let me know if this works for you.
Look out for the little Check Spelling button underneath the place where you type your information.

Pupils in Class JF9 took part in a debate about whether ghosts were in fact real. We assembled in a local village hall (the classroom) and had experts from The Ghost Hunters, The Ghostbusters and Scientists. These experts came from far and wide, Ms Megan C travelled all the way from American and added some local dialect to her contributions.
The issue arose because local residents had spotted some unusual happenings at 32 Vine Street, a deserted, run-down house which was due for demolition. The Town Council representative (Mr Furness) wanted to know if the suspect ghosts would continue to play havoc on the local village after demolition began. He asked the scientists and the ghost experts for their views, which were well argued and thought through. Although everyone contributed to the debate, we didn't reach a conclusion.
A particularly fierce property developer (Mrs Leslie) joined in the debate and offered her views, the debate, however, continues.....
NOTE: Watch out for further role play...

This BBC website will help you to practice and learn French. Have a go...
